He graduated with honors from the Music Academy of Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz in Łódź in the class of prof. Tadeusz Chmielewski. He is currently employed as Professor and is the Head of the Piano Department at his Home University. He perfected his skills at master classes with such outstanding pianists as Wiktor Mierżanow and Rudolf Buchbinder. He was a scholarship holder of the Minister of Culture and Arts, Ferenc Liszt Society in Wrocław, Yamaha Music Fundation of Europe and Stiftung für Internationale Meisterkurse für Musik Zürich. In 1995 he took part in the 13th International Piano Competition Fryderyk Chopin in Warsaw.
Mariusz Drzewicki has been leading lively concert activity for many years as a soloist and chamber musician in Poland and abroad (Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Austria, Sweden, Latvia, Great Britain, Norway, Italy). He has performed at many festivals, including Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk, Polnische Tage in Darmstadt, Polish Culture Days in Tobolsk, International Festival of Józef Hofmann in Nałęczów, the International Piano Festival in Bolzano and many others. He performed many times at the birth house of Fryderyk Chopin in Żelazowa Wola.
He collaborated with the Latvian National Ballet in the production of a ballet performance based on the music of Fryderyk Chopin, which he also performed in cooperation with the “Sabat” Theater of Małgorzata Potocka. He also took part in the great Viennese music production p. “Scala Soluna di Vienna”
He has been performing with the violinist Łukasz Błaszczyk for many years, performing chamber music. Together they also premiered Concertino for violin, piano and symphony orchestra by Zdzisław Szostak with the accompaniment of the Łódź Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by the composer.
The pianist has made recordings for Polish Radio and Television as well as Dutch and Latvian television. His CD with music of Fryderyk Chopin appeared on the German market: CD (1999) In 2010 he made a DVD with Chopin’s works. In 2012, he released a CD with piano compositions of Isaac Albeniz.
He also recorded music for movies and animated films. (“Mój Rower” “Rodzina Treflików”)
Mariusz Drzewicki also leads teaching activities beyond the university walls by conducting piano workshops and seminars in the country and abroad [Lithuania, Italy, Spain, Norway] and sitting in the jury of many piano competitions.
He was a frequent reviewer of doctoral dissertations and habilitation proceedings.
